TEHRAN, September 7 - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif stressed that Iran would keep supporting Syria in fighting against terrorists.

Zarif says Iran continues backing Syria in fighting terrorismTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - “Iran will keep supporting Syria in its fight against terrorism,” Zarif said in a phone call with Syria's Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem.

He also congratulated Syrian foreign minister for breaking Daesh siege of Dayr al-Zawr City by Syrian Army.

Zarif then stressed importance of expanding bilateral relations between the two countries in all areas.

Muallem, for his part, expressed his country’s gratitude for Iran’s support, and said that Syrian army would not rest until complete liberation of Syria from Takfiri terrorism.

On Tuesday, Syrian army forces, backed by allied fighters from popular defense groups, reached the eastern city of Dayr al-Zawr and broke a nearly three-year-long siege imposed by Daesh.

Shortly after breaking the siege, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad extended his congratulations to government troops on the major breakthrough against the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group.

Daesh overran large parts of Dayr al-Zawr province, including its many oil fields, in mid-2014 as it seized areas in Syria and neighboring Iraq.

By early 2015, the Takfiri terrorists were in control of parts of Dayr al-Zawr city, and besieged the remaining parts of it under government control.
