TEHRAN, October 30 - A senior Iranian lawmaker said that the country’s missile program is merely for defense purposes.

Iran’s missile program only for defense purposes, says MPTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -  “No country is capable of canceling (the nuclear deal officially known as) the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action unilaterally,” said Chairman of Iranian Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi.

“The JCPOA has been confirmed by the UN Security Council Resolution and no one is able to cancel its unilaterally,” he said in a meeting with Deputy Federal Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria Michael Linhart.

He warned that Iran would give an appropriate response to the US in case it violates the nuclear deal.

“Iran’s missile program is the result of experiences of Iraq’s 8-year war against Iran and are for defense purposes.”

He said that Iran is against producing nuclear, chemical and bacterial weapons based on its international commitment and Islamic Revolution Supreme Leader’s fatwa.

Michael Linhart, for his part, said boosting bilateral ties with Iran as a key regional country is of great importance for Austria.

He said that Austria and other European countries are standing by the nuclear deal along with the Iranian nation and would not allow it to be endangered by some arbitrary actions.
