TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Police and protesters clashed outside parliament in Buenos Aires as lawmakers inside debated the reform bill on Monday.

The protesters, who were hiding their faces, threw stones at riot police, who in response used water canon and tear gas.

Scores of people were injured, including police officers, and dozens were arrested, authorities said.

On Thursday, debate on the bill was suspended due to violent protests.

Macri insists that pension reforms are needed to cut the budget deficit, attract investment, and promote sustainable growth.

Macri’s critics accuse him of balancing the budget at the expense of the poor.

“This bill will put millions of retirees at risk. It changes the whole pension system,” said Laura Rivas, a 34-year-old teacher participating in the Monday demos.

“We are going to have to work more years before we can retire, and then the pension payments we get will be minimal, so it hurts us as workers,” she said.
