Tehran, YJC. Official says Iran has found access to livestock genetics which used to be under US monopoly.

Jahed Livestock Input Co. is an Agriculture Ministry franchise with activities that range from the provision of livestock input to genetic livestock farming.

Iran has ended the US monopoly over genetic farming, Fars news agency quotes the Jahed CEO.

Last January the company imported a number of gnomically bred cows from the US. As gnomic substances were derived from the cows, the company was capable to inseminate over 200 thousand cows.

Prior to this gnomic drugs were imported which would cost much more than the import of gnomically bred livestock. The new trick also shortens the breeding time and improves the quality of the job.

The company announces that by importing the cows, it has saved $11.9 thousand.

Beside that, the cows bred inside the country produce 45 kilos milk daily instead of 35.

Jahed CEO Hamid Varnaseri said "The Holstein Friesian cattle were recognized to be the best breed as we worked on milk improvement. The full-blood breed produce 40-45 kilos milk a day,” adding that in the meantime, in most of the country’s dairies the amount varies between 20 and 37 kilos.
