-“If the enemy today has stopped at a distance of 200 miles away from the Strait of Hormuz and is pulling out its vessels from the Persian Gulf, it is because of [our] Armed Forces’ deterrence power, and the enemy knows that it cannot test Iran’s preparedness and defense might,” Brigadier General Alireza Sabahi-Fard said on Wednesday.
The commander added that the Iranian Army has beefed up its deterrence power to such a degree that it now forms a solid shield and will defend the country’s territory so powerfully that it will never cross enemies’ mind that they might launch an act of aggression against Iran.
Unlike armies of hegemonic powers that seek power for the sake of oppressing and bullying others, the commander said, the Iranian Armed Forces use their power to defend the oppressed and create peace and security in the region.
He said that the Air Defense Force has been covering all areas across the country, keeping a watchful eye on the skies of Iran and beyond the borders.
Iran has recently made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing military equipment and hardware despite facing sanctions and Western economic pressure.
The Iranian army unveiled the “Falaq radar system,” a domestically upgraded and overhauled version of a foreign air defense radar system last week.
"This system has high capabilities and can identify all types of cruise missiles, stealth planes, drone systems and ballistic missiles for a range of 400 kilometers," Sabahi-Fard said on Saturday.
Last Wednesday, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami also said that the country plans to unveil a domestically-designed and –manufactured missile defense system.
Hatami said on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting that the missile system, dubbed Bavar-373, will be unveiled on National Defense Industry Day, which falls on August 22.
The Bavar-373 is a long-range road-mobile surface-to-air missile system.
Described as a competitor with Russia’s S-300 missile system, it can carry and launch various types of missiles with different ranges at different altitudes.
