Tehran 15 January_The latest debate in the European Parliament on US-Iran tensions went on for two hours. Much of the focus was on the recent assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani at the hands of the president of the United States.

As criticism of Washington's anti-Iran policies continued, Soleimani's success in fighting terrorism was highlighted.

The decision by Germany, France and Britain to trigger the so-called Iran deal dispute mechanism has been criticized by Tehran and Moscow. It could eventually result in UN sanctions being reimposed on the Islamic Republic.

The move by Donald Trump to pull the US out of the Iran nuclear agreement in 2018 is the root cause of all this tension, according to many security analyst. Therefore, they suggest, with respect to the nuclear deal dispute mechanism, the EU should be applying pressure on Washington, not Tehran.

The suggestion by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to replace the Iran nuclear deal with a Trump deal has been rubbished by several EU lawmakers.
