Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has released more than 100 members of the opposition as an effort, Maduro said, to promote political reconciliation in the Latin American nation.
The Venezuelan president issued a decree granting legal pardon to opponents involved in several crimes as violent protests, coup attempts and hate instigation, among others.
Many of the released prisoners are lawmakers related to US backed opposition leader Juan Guaido, however Maduro went on to concede them the legal benefit. Officials hail the President's move. Nonetheless some in the opposition still criticize Maduro.
But legal experts have a different approach. Experts say that Maduro's pardon to the jailed opponents proves he fosters reconciliation among political sectors in Venezuela. And this might be a boost for voters in this year's legislative election.
