Monday, 07 September 2020_US House speaker Nancy Pelosi says President Donald Trump is "trying to do voter suppression" by suggesting that votes in the upcoming election will not be valid.

Trump trying to do voter suppression by suggesting votes won't be valid: Pelosi“Is to say, ‘Why should you vote?  Your vote will not be voted as cast.’  It's, again, a tactic on his part that must be ignored,” the top Democrat in the lower chamber of Congress told MSNBC.

The president, who says the US election is rigged, urged his supporters last week to vote twice in the November election to ensure their ballot is counted.

"He's engaged in fright and fear, as usual,” Pelosi said. “And what we're saying to people is, ‘Do not pay any attention to what he is saying. He wants to discredit your vote.’ We understand what he's about. We intend to mitigate for the damage that he's causing. And we're doing so with an aggressive Get Out The Vote. “

Hoping to get reelected for another term in office, Trump faces Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden in the November race.

Biden, who has been leading Trump in polls nationally, is falling behind him in the key state of Texas.
