US President Joe Biden announced in a Twitter message that he had a bilateral meeting with "Svetlana Tikhanovskaya", the failed and running candidate for the presidency of Belarus.
"It was an honor to meet Svetlana Tykhanovskaya at the White House," Biden wrote in a Twitter message. "The United States stands with the people of Belarus in their quest for universal democracy and human rights."
Tykhanovskaya, who fled Belarus to Lithuania after losing the presidential election and is holding talks with US and European officials against President Alexander Lukashenko, has met with various Biden government officials and prominent figures. Democrats and Republicans had met in Congress.
In a recent interview with National Interest magazine, Belarus's failed presidential candidate called on Washington officials to support his efforts to oust Lukashenko.
