The United Nations Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has been extended for another six months.
The UN Security Council unanimously voted in favor of the resolution extending the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan or UNAMA. The members of the council decided to extend it for six months until the current UNAMA mission.
The Council also requested the Secretary-General of the United Nations to prepare a written report by 31 January 2022 outlining strategic and operational recommendations for the UNAMA mission in light of recent political, security and social developments in Afghanistan.
The UN Security Council resolution emphasizes the importance of establishing an inclusive government, protecting human rights and international law.
