The United Nations Children's Fund welcomed the reopening of boys 'schools in Afghanistan and called for the reopening of girls' schools in the country.
UNICEF said in a statement:
It is important that all girls of all ages continue their education without delay, and that is why it is necessary for Afghan female teachers to resume their work.
UNICEF said that the lack of education for girls is a loss of opportunities for Afghanistan, adding:
Even before the recent developments, 4.2 million Afghan children, 60 percent of whom were girls, were barred from continuing their education in the country.
The UN Children's Fund noted that the organization will work with other actors to educate Afghan girls and boys.
