As tensions between Moscow and the West continue over Ukraine's moves to join NATO, the Russian foreign minister spoke sarcastically in New York about the idea of Moscow joining the Western military alliance.
According to Russian media, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met behind closed doors with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Lavrov and Stoltenberg met amid escalating tensions between Russia and the West over Ukraine's bid to join NATO, and Moscow has repeatedly warned of the consequences.
According to the Tass news agency, before the meeting between the Russian Foreign Minister and the NATO Secretary General, they appeared in front of reporters to take photos.
Sergei Lavrov told reporters during his brief appearance:
Do not try your luck. Russia has no plans to join NATO.
