Taliban leader Mullahbatullah Akhundzadeh today (Sunday) issued a decree banning the cultivation of all types of narcotics in Afghanistan.
Taliban spokesman Enamullah Samgani wrote on his Twitter page:
The cultivation of narcotics in Afghanistan has been strictly banned by the Taliban leadership.
If anyone violates this decree, his cultivation will be destroyed and these people will be dealt with.
The Taliban leadership has also banned the use, transfer, sale, import and export of narcotics, such as wine, heroin, glass, cannabis, etc., throughout Afghanistan.
The order comes as Afghanistan is one of the world's largest drug-producing countries, supplying 90 percent of the world's opium alone.
During the 20 years of foreign presence in Afghanistan, the production and cultivation of narcotics in this country had increased unprecedentedly.
