A deadly storm in Minnesota has killed three peopleStrong winds and tornadoes have caused widespread damage in parts of the Midwestern United States, and officials say bad weather during the stormy week has killed three more people.

According to the Russian news agency Sputnik, South Dakota Governor Christie Nom declared a state of emergency following the severe storm and ordered state officials to send troops and resources to help the affected areas.

He added that reports of damage had been received in 28 cities, and that the Department of Public Safety's Office of Emergency Management had set up an emergency operations center to coordinate responses and response to local authorities.

The storm was so severe in the Midwestern United States that many trees were uprooted, tree branches and debris scattered across the streets, and lightning struck in some parts of South Dakota.
