Thursday, 26 May 2022 (YJC)_ Reiterating Ankara's opposition to Finland and Sweden's membership in NATO, the Turkish presidential spokesman said it was necessary to take into account Turkey's security concerns in order to expand the alliance.

Ankara: NATO expansion is impossible without addressing Turkey's concernsFollowing repeated objections from Turkish officials to Finland and Sweden's membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, a senior official in Ankara announced that Turkey was satisfied.

Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin told a news conference after Turkish officials met with representatives of Sweden and Finland in Ankara on Wednesday evening that NATO expansion was impossible without addressing Turkey's concerns.

According to the RIA Novosti website, Colin explained:
They (Sweden and Finland) have stated that they understand our security concerns. We provided them with all the documents.

He reiterated Turkey's opposition to Finland and Sweden's membership in NATO in the current situation, emphasizing:
We made it clear that we could not talk about any process without addressing our concerns.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a telephone conversation with the British Prime Minister that the support of Finland and Sweden for the PKK terrorist group was the main reason for Ankara's opposition to their membership in NATO.
