Iranian President Hassan Rouhani expressed hope that the upcoming Astana meeting could be a beginning for Syrian-Syrian talks.
Rouhani hopes Astana meeting could be beginning for intra-Syrian talks"I hope that Astana meeting will be a beginning for real Syrian-Syrian talks and lead to a satisfactory point for people of the country,” Rouhani said in a meeting with the visiting Syrian Prime Minister Imad Khamis here in Tehran on Thursday.

He said that liberation of Aleppo sent a message to the world that Syrians are capable of defending their own territory against terrorists, and that terrorist groups and their allies will not obtain their objectives.

Liberation of Aleppo and establishing ceasefire are two important steps for creating peace and stability in Syria, he said.

Rouhani further called Iran-Syria relations deep and ‘influential’ and stressed using all opportunities and potentials to develop and strengthen Tehran-Damascus ties.

Khamis, for his part, said, "Today, Syrian nation and government are resolved to resist terrorists and return security to their own country.”

He said Syrian government welcomes any initiative to return peace and security to the country, and expressed hope that results of Astana talks could be a solution to return stability and security to Syria and real battle terrorists.

Khamis lauded the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in establishing peace and stability in the region and stressed boosting bilateral strategic ties between the two countries in all fields.
