TEHRAN, April 27, YJC - Secretary of Iranian National Security Council Ali Shamkhani said military solution works only against groups refusing to lay down weapons.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -
"Terrorism is passing across borders like a dangerous virus… Fighting terrorism should be conducted through adopting coordinated, joint and indiscriminate approaches,” he said in a meeting with Russia's special envoy on Syria Alexander Lavrentiev here in Tehran.
"We are always committed to a political solution to end Syrian crisis. We believe that military solution is effective for groups which refuse to lay down weapons,” he added.
Astana conference has played a decisive role in establishing and continuing ceasefire in Syria, he said, adding armed groups should not be allowed to prevent continuing ceasefire through provocation of certain countries which are against ceasefire or make excuses.
He also called for establishing a fact-finding committee to detect paths of sending chemical weapons for terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria. "The illegitimate and illegal missile operation of the US (in Syria) should not be left without pursuit.”
Lavrentiev, for his part, supported the constructive role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the political process of establishing peace in Syria.
He added that Moscow is committed to military action against terrorists and those not committed to political solution.
It would continue tough battle against ISIL forces, al-Nusra and their linked groups along with pursuing political paths, the Russian diplomat said.
